Collaboration Tools

Collaboration and Teamwork

Many of the tools we use for teaching, learning, research, and working now combine features like chat, file storage, document collaboration, and more into a single app. This guide will help most people at Harvard find the best tool for collaboration and teamwork.

Recommended options for Harvard Microsoft 365 users

Microsoft Teams combines several Microsoft 365 applications into a single workspace. OneDrive, SharePoint, Outlook, and OneNote are built in, and you can work on Office documents with your colleagues within the app. Teams also supports video calls and meetings. You can also collaborate on documents directly with OneDrive and SharePoint, or use them for sending and sharing files

Recommended option for Harvard Google users

Google Workspace for Education lets you collaborate on Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more. You also can send and share up to medium-risk data, and use integrated Google Meet as an alternative video conferencing tool to Zoom if you need it.

Also available

Most people at Harvard should use the options above for collaboration and teamwork, but Slack is also available for some students, faculty, and staff at FAS, GSAS, and SEAS. Slack allows you to chat and collaborate in real-time as an alternative to email.
