New University Research Computing organization

June 27, 2022

This message was sent by Vice President and University CIO Klara Jelinkova on June 27, 2022:

Dear Colleagues,

I’m delighted to announce the creation of the University Research Computing (RC) organization within HUIT. Research computing is a very important area of growth, helping Harvard researchers in various disciplines address some of society’s biggest challenges through high-performance computing, rigorous data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, along with other cutting-edge and innovative solutions.

The new University RC organization will provide dedicated resources to continue its growth at Harvard, focusing on aligning priorities around a unified vision, inspiring University-wide collaboration, and investing in the creation of forward-thinking solutions. The new organization will enable easier access to services and strengthen partnerships across Schools and Units.

Scott Yockel, who reports directly to me in his new role as University Research Computing Officer, will lead the organization, alongside Krista Valladares, Associate Director of University Research Computing, and a planned Deputy Research Computing Officer. A University Research Data Officer is also in recruitment now.

This is especially exciting news for HUIT, as we will soon be welcoming new colleagues joining us from FAS Research Computing. These teams already work closely with our Academic Technology and Library Technology Services teams, so it will be wonderful to enhance our collaborations further.

This is an exciting time for research computing, and this new organization will ensure Harvard stays on the front lines of innovation, supporting the University’s most critical academic mission.

Sincerely,

Klara Jelinkova

Vice President and University Chief Information Officer
