MacOS 10.15 Catalina Support Notice

Apple has made macOS Catalina (10.15) available as of October 7, 2019. As with previous releases, HUIT recommends that students, faculty, and staff avoid upgrading to macOS Catalina on computers that are currently running OS X 10.14 Mojave or below until HUIT completes compatibility testing. Internet Service Interruption

Internet access has been restored across campus. There is no indication that this was a malicious attack. Harvard University Information Technology continues its technical analysis to determine the root cause. Visit huit.harvard.edu for updates.

Known issue with Mac Mail on OSX Yosemite

HUIT is aware of a number of issues involving Mac Mail in Mac OSX Yosemite interacting with Microsoft Exchange environments.

The issue mostly involves changes to messages in the client not getting synced to the server and reverting to a previous state. Users may experience errors and difficulty in using their Harvard mail in the Mac Mail Client.

HUIT does not recommend upgrading to Yosemite at this time and recommends Outlook 2011 as the preferred client for email on the Macintosh OS. As further updates are released for OSX Yosemite, HUIT will update these recommendations....

HUIT rolls out Problem Management in ServiceNow

HUIT has adopted the best-practice Problem Management process, a vital part of service quality and continual improvement. The pilot will concentrate on the handling of Major Incidents affecting HUIT services.

Internet Explorer Vulnerability Final Update

This is the final HUIT update regarding the security vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE).

HUIT has patched most centrally managed systems to address the vulnerability. Users can now safely use the IE browser again on HUIT-managed PCs. For PCs using IE, please remember to reboot your machine to ensure the patch has been properly installed.

Security issue and fix for Mac OS X 10.9 "Mavericks"

Apple has released an update for the most recent version of the software that runs Macintosh (Mac OS X 10.9 "Mavericks"). It fixes an error in the handling of secure internet connections that could allow a third party to read encrypted information you send or receive.

Update on FAS Spam Filtering

Security issue and fix for iPhone and iPad (iOS 7 only)

Apple has released an update for the most recent version of the software that runs iPhone and iPad devices, iOS 7. It fixes an error in the handling of secure internet connections that could allow a third party to read encrypted information you send or receive.

HUIT advises all users of iOS 7 to apply this patch (7.0.6) when prompted by the device. You can find more information about the bug and the update that addresses it at Apple’s support site
