How do I start CrashPlan backup?

HUIT-managed Windows and Mac OS X computers can have their data automatically backed-up using CrashPlan Backup service. CrashPlan is available for all FAS users. For other departments, there may be an additional charge. Please ask your manager for more details.

How can I secure my computer?

Take the following steps to secure your PC or Mac:

  1. Choose a secure password, with the following characteristics:
    • Do not use real words, names, dates, phone numbers, addresses, or personally identifiable information as part of your password
    • Mix upper and lower case letters, and include combinations of numbers and symbols
    • Use at least 8 characters
  2. Password protect your computer and mobile device
  3. Install the latest operating system updates on your computer
  4. Install anti-virus software on your computer
